The High Commissioner, H. E. Dr. Benson Alfred Bana meets with the Leadership of University of Port Harcourt on Thursday 1st July, 2021, in an attempt to resuscitate the moribund cooperation that existed between the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria in the late 70s and early 80s. Present at the meeting at the Department level were the Head of Department, Dr Anthony Njoku, Prof. Denis Ekpo, Prof. Dele Adegboku, Dr. Shak Akosobo, Dr. Iyan. Also, met during the visit was the Dean of Faculty of Humanities , Prof. F.O Shaka the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof Stephen Okodudu and the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics.
The very fruitful discussion may soon lead to the offer of Kiswahili Language course at the University of Port Harcourt, Department of Foreign Languages and Literature. Furthermore, It is intended that the new arrangement will create room for cooperation between the institutions of higher learning, beyond Kiswahili language program to staff exchange, student exchange and other mutually beneficial academic arrangements.
At the High Commission, the focus on economic and cultural diplomacy is at the forefront.
