The Federal University Lokoja (FUL) was established by the Federal Government in 2011 to expand access to quality tertiary education in Nigeria, especially to the catchment areas, the host community and other parts of North-Central Nigeria. The University commenced academic activities in 2012; and it currently offers twenty-nine (29) academic programmes in five (5) faculties,; has a student population of about 9000 students and has just initiated a phased movement to the permanent site at Felele.
The University is very relevant to the history of Nigeria as its location, Lokoja is the first Capital of Nigeria and the confluence state which has become a melting point for Nigerians from diverse cultures and languages. The University’s students are drawn from all state of the Federation, thereby making the university a unifying academic Institution in the Country.
The courtesy visit by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olayemi D. Akinwumi on His Excellency, Dr. Benson Alfred Bana, held on 8th September, 2021, was one of the first steps towards establishing a biliteral relation between the United Republic of Tanzania and Federal University Lokoja.
